Teachers can generate share links for exams, allowing students to access exams directly through a link. You can control whether signup is required and enable or disable links as needed.

Overview

Exam share links provide a flexible way to distribute exams to students. Depending on your settings, you can:
  • Generate share links that require students to sign up or log in
  • Generate share links that allow students to take exams without creating an account
  • Enable or disable links at any time
  • Control signup requirements independently of link activation
  1. Navigate to Share Tab Open your exam and click on the Share tab in the exam navigation menu.
  2. Generate the Link In the Share section, you’ll see a “Share link” card with a “Generate link” button. Click the button to create your exam share link. Once generated, the link will appear in the Share section with options to copy it.
  3. Configure Signup Requirements After generating the link, you can toggle the “Signup required” switch to control whether students need to create an account or log in to access the exam.
    • Signup required ON: Students must sign up or log in to take the exam
    • Signup required OFF: Students can access the exam without creating an account
  4. Enable or Disable the Link Use the “Enable link” toggle to activate or deactivate the share link:
    • Enable link ON: The link is active and students can use it to access the exam
    • Enable link OFF: The link is disabled and cannot be used to access the exam
Depending on your signup requirement settings, different link types will be available: When “Signup required” is enabled, you’ll see a “With signup:” link. This link:
  • Requires students to have an account or create one
  • Prompts students to sign up or log in before accessing the exam
  • Allows you to track student identity and exam history
If a student opens the “With signup” link but doesn’t have an account, they’ll see a signup/login screen prompting them to create an account or log in to proceed.
When “Signup required” is disabled, you’ll see a “Without signup:” link. This link:
  • Allows students to take the exam without creating an account
  • Is designed for students who don’t have email accounts
  • Provides immediate access to the exam
When signup is not required, the system automatically generates a second share link specifically for students without email accounts. This ensures all students can access the exam regardless of whether they have an email address.

Student Experience

Accessing with Signup Required

When a student clicks a “With signup” link:
  1. If they’re already logged in, they’ll be taken directly to the exam
  2. If they’re not logged in, they’ll see a “Signup required” screen with:
    • A message: “You need to have a verified account to take this exam. Please sign up or login to proceed.”
    • A “Create account or login” button to continue

Accessing Without Signup Required

When a student clicks a “Without signup” link:
  1. They can access the exam immediately without creating an account
  2. They’ll be assigned a temporary account for the exam session
  3. Their exam data will be associated with this temporary account
If a student opens a “With signup” link from a context where they were using a no-email account (such as accessing it from a “Without signup” link), the system will:
  • Display a signup/login UI prompting them to create an account or log in
  • Allow them to merge their temporary account data with a permanent account if they choose to sign up
If a student has been using a no-email account and clicks a “With signup” link, they should complete the signup/login process in the same browser tab to ensure their exam history is properly merged with their new account.
Both link types include a copy icon next to the link URL. Click the icon to copy the link to your clipboard, then share it with students through:
  • Email
  • Messaging platforms
  • Learning management systems
  • Any other communication method
You can enable or disable share links at any time:
  • To disable: Toggle “Enable link” to OFF. The link will no longer work, and students won’t be able to access the exam through it.
  • To re-enable: Toggle “Enable link” to ON. The link will become active again immediately.
Disabling a link doesn’t delete it. You can re-enable it at any time, and the same link will work again. This is useful for temporarily restricting access or managing exam availability.

Changing Signup Requirements

You can change signup requirements at any time:
  • To require signup: Toggle “Signup required” to ON. The “With signup” link will be available.
  • To remove signup requirement: Toggle “Signup required” to OFF. The “Without signup” link will be available.
Changing signup requirements will affect which link type is available. Make sure to share the correct link type with your students after making changes.

Best Practices

  1. Choose the right link type: Use “With signup” links when you need to track student identity and maintain exam history. Use “Without signup” links for quick access or when students don’t have email addresses.
  2. Share the correct link: Always verify you’re sharing the correct link type (With signup or Without signup) based on your current settings.
  3. Manage link availability: Disable links when exams are not yet ready or after exams have closed to prevent unauthorized access.
  4. Communicate requirements: Let students know whether they need to create an account before accessing the exam.

Troubleshooting

If a share link isn’t working:
  1. Check that “Enable link” is toggled ON
  2. Verify the exam is in the correct status (e.g., Ongoing, Scheduled)
  3. Ensure you copied the complete link URL

Students Can’t Access Exam

If students report they can’t access the exam:
  1. Verify the link is enabled
  2. Check that you shared the correct link type (With signup vs. Without signup)
  3. Ensure students are using the link in a supported browser
  4. Confirm the exam hasn’t been deleted or archived

Signup Screen Appears Unexpectedly

If students see a signup screen when they shouldn’t:
  1. Check your “Signup required” setting
  2. Verify you shared the “Without signup” link if signup shouldn’t be required
  3. Ensure students are clicking the correct link
If you don’t see both link types:
  1. Check your “Signup required” toggle setting
  2. Ensure you’ve generated the share link first
  3. Refresh the page if links don’t appear immediately
